Chennai, July 2 (Inditop.com) Even as the two neighbouring states bicker over sharing of Cauvery river water, the issue did not figure in a meeting between Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his Tamil Nadu counterpart M. Karunanidhi here Thursday.

Yeddyurappa, who is on a visit here for a medical check up, called on Karunanidhi and had a half-an-hour long meeting.

“I decided to visit Karunanidhi at his home given his age and stature though he wanted to visit me in the hospital,” Yeddyurappa told reporters.

Yeddyurappa categorically said there was no discussion on the release of Cauvery water by his state for the farm fields in the Tanjore belt or Tamil Nadu’s Hogenakkal drinking water project.

Karanataka is opposed to the drinking water project.

He said the Tamil Nadu government has agreed in principle to permit installation of the statue of Kannada poet Sarvagna here and Karunanidhi will visit Bangalore to unveil the statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar in Karnataka.

The date of Karunanidhi’s visit will be finalised after the ongoing session of Tamil Nadu state assembly is over.
