Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Jan 22 (IANS) To ensure smooth functioning of legislative bodies, all the stakeholders need to adhere to well settled norms and standards, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said on Friday.
She was speaking at the 78th conference of the presiding officers of legislative bodies in India at the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha hall here.
While the opposition should have their say in the house, the government should also have its way to discharge its responsibilities, Mahajan said, adding there was a perception that public faith in our democratic institutions has been eroding.
She opined that the effectiveness of the legislatures rests on public trust and reiterated that discipline and decorum in the house is the key to maintaining the credibility and dignity of the institution.
