New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Five members of the “Jhinjhana gang” were arrested here for their involvement in 105 cases of robbery and snatching, police said on Sunday.
The accused — identified as Manoj, 22, Pinku, 28, Jagdish, 27, and Ashok, 28; all residents of Jhinjhana in Uttar Pradesh — were arrested on Friday from west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area during a raid conducted by a special team of Delhi Police.
Satish, the receiver of the robbed chains, was arrested later.
“The accused were involved in cases of robbery and snatching in south Delhi and Gurgaon. With their arrest, 105 cases of robbery and snatching have been solved,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Prem Nath said.
“They operated in the morning from 6 a.m to 9.30 a.m. and then in the evening between 5.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. They would ride on motor cycles (two on each), choose their targets — mostly women of middle age or those alone on the road. They chose temples, religious places, schools, bus stands and offices to commit the crime,” he added.
The officer said the accused snatched six to eight gold chains in a day and then would go to their rented homes via different routes.
“They contacted their gang members over mobile and met them at a designated place for disposal of the robbed and snatched property. They disposed these articles in Jhinjhana and in Delhi,” the officer said.
