New Delhi, Oct 2 (Inditop.com) Leaders cutting across the political spectrum Friday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, on his 140th birth anniversary by offering floral tributes at his memorial Rajghat.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani were among those who paid their respects.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Ministers of State Shashi Tharoor and Krishna Tirath also visited the memorial.

A number of foreign dignitaries were also present including US Ambassador Timothy G. Roemer.

Leaders of various religions also offered prayers at the samadhi.
