Ghaziabad, June 14 (IANS) Ghaziabad District Magistrate R. Ramesh Kumar was Monday transferred from his post, a day after agitating Jats cut off water supply to Delhi from the Upper Ganga Canal, officials said.
Ramesh Kumar’s new posting has not been announced.
According to officials, the transfer is a fallout of the failure of the local intelligence wing to inform the administration of the Jats’ agitation, seeking reservation for the community in central government jobs.
On Sunday, the Jat Arakshhan Sangharsh Samiti (Reservation Struggle Committee) organised a public meeting at a college in Muradnagar town. At about 4.30 p.m., the panchayat decided to stop the water supply to the capital.
The leaders then went to the water treatment plant at Abupur and closed the gates from where water flows to the Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi plants that serve about 40 percent of Delhi’s water needs.
