Shimla, May 13 (Inditop) India is sympathetic to the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka but will have nothing to do with the Tamil Tigers, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said Wednesday.
“Our solidarity is with the Tamil minority, the civilians, who have been victims of violence,” Sharma said amid polling for Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, his home state.
“As far as the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is concerned, it was unjustified on the part of some political parties (in Tamil Nadu) to drag it into partisan politics,” he said.
“The LTTE a terrorist organisation which has committed brutalities on their own people and it is a proscribed organisation,” he added.
Sharma’s comments came as the Sri Lankan military said it was poised to seize the last of the land territory still held by the LTTE in Mullaitivu district.
