Ranchi, Oct 2 (Inditop.com) In a major overhaul, the Jharkhand government Friday transferred 21 Indian Police Service officers of the Superintendent of Police (SP) rank, a government notification said.

The government has transferred 13 of the 24 districts police chief of SP rank. Besides, the government has increased the strength of the state vigilance department, by giving it one more SP rank officer. The vigilance department is investigating graft cases against former chief minister Madhu Koda and six former ministers.

The prominent districts whose police chiefs have been transferred include Bokaro, Ranchi city and the rural area.

The massive transfers and postings are also seen as a precursor to holding elections to the state assembly, which has been kept in animated suspension though the state has been placed under president’s rule.

Central Home Minister P. Chidambaram, while visiting Jharkhand in September, had said that the Election Commission has been asked to fix dates for the state assembly elections. He said the poll panel might come out with the announcement after assembly elections are over in three states Oct 13.

Once the election dates are announced, the state government cannot transfer officials without the permission of the Election Commission.
