New Delhi, Dec 23 (Inditop.com) The Congress said Wednesday that its improved performance in the Jharkhand polls was “short of expectations” and that the party will take a view on government formation after the final results come in.
“We have improved our position but we were hoping to get more seats. The results so far are short of expectations,” party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told Inditop.
The Congress contested the election in alliance with the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) of Babulal Marandi.
Ahmed said the party was hoping to win about 30 seats in the 81-member assembly. The trends suggested that the two parties were ahead in 25 seats.
However, he added that the party was “happy that the people of the state have rejected communal forces”.
Asked if the Congress will take support of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in forming the government, Ahmed said any such decision will be taken by the central leadership in consultation with state leaders after the results come in.
“It’s too early to comment. A decision on government formation can be taken only after the final results come in,” the Congress spokesperson said.
