Ranchi, March 21 (IANS) A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator fighting the Lok Sabha polls on a BJP ticket for the Rajmahal seat resigned Friday from the assembly membership.

“JMM legislator Hemlal Murmu has resigned from the membership of the assembly by sending a fax to the speaker,” an official told IANS.
He resigned as speaker Shashak Shekhar Bhokta had issued notice to two JMM legislators who have been fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the general elections.
The two — Hemlal Murmu and Vidyut Baran Mahto — are candidates from Rajmahal and Jamshedpur, respectively.
Bhokta Wednesday said he would take suo motu action against the legislators for jumping ship to fight the elections.
Talking to reporters in Deoghar, he said: “No party has informed about the legislators changing sides to fight polls. I can take suo motu action as it falls under the anti-defection law.”
Congress legislator and now Trinamool Congress candidate from Dhanbad, Chandra Shekhar Dubey resigned from membership of the assembly Thursday.
