New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley Monday said a new chief minister for Karnataka would be chosen through a ‘democratic process’ and added that B.S. Yeddyurappa’s suggestion to make Sadananda Gowda his successor was one among the many proposals received.
Stating that the selection of a new chief minister was an ‘ongoing process’, Jaitley brushed aside speculation of Gowda being made Yeddyurappa’s successor.
‘The selection of Karnataka chief minister is an ongoing process, there is a democratic process which may be consensus or even voting,’ Jaitley said.
‘Out of the 121 MLAs, I and Rajnath (Singh)-ji met 118 one-on-one and all have given their suggestions,’ he said.
Before submitting his resignation, Yeddyurappa announced that he had suggested to party central leaders to pick Gowda as his successor.
According to party sources, Gowda does not find favour in the anti-Yeddyurappa camp which is pushing for Rural Development Minister Jagadish Shettar as chief minister.
The BJP legislature is scheduled to meet Aug 3 to decided on the name of the successor to Yeddyurappa.
