Kolkata, May 21 (IANS) City-based private power utility CESC Ltd. on Thursday said it is planning to provide connections to households in Kolkata within 24 hours of applying.

“Earlier, we gave connection to an applicant within 24 hours of the application and plan to roll it out again for everyone by March 2016,” company chairman Sanjiv Goenka told media persons here.
He said it is the first time such a move has been taken up by an electricity company in the country.
The company has invested Rs.3,000 crore in the past two years to strengthen its power distribution network.
“We will be investing another Rs.2,000 crore in the coming 18-24 months to further enhance the distribution,” he said.
Goenka said his target was to make CESC Ltd. the most customer-oriented utility company India.
“In the coming years, the electricity load will go up and we need to have more import points.”
