Kolkata, June 2 (IANS) The Left Front has lost the right to rule West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said Wednesday, after her party came on top in municipal elections held three days ago.
‘We congratulate the people of Bengal. The state government has lost all right to be in power and assembly elections should be held immediately in West Bengal,’ Banerjee told mediapersons on her arrival from New Delhi.
The Trinamool swept the Kolkata Municipal Corporation by decimating the Left Front – which has run it since 2005 – and came up with an impressive showing in municipalities across the districts.
Banerjee said the Trinamool was set to control more than 50 civic bodies of the 81 that went to the hustings Sunday.
