Lucknow, Sep 21 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav here Tuesday accused Chief Minister Mayawati of misusing government funds in the name of strengthening security across the state ahead of the Ayodhya judgment Sep 24.

‘I have learnt that crores of rupees are being unnecessarily spent on purchase of batons, helmets and torch lights for security personnel. As the chief minister has her commission fixed in all such purchases, she is misusing the government’s funds for buying such items,’ Yadav told reporters.

‘At the behest of the chief minister, government-owned buses and even private vehicles have been reserved for security personnel, which is causing problems for the public across the state,’ he added.

Yadav, who is the son of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, also alleged that instead of focusing on measures for spreading peace and communal harmony, the state government was busy creating terror and panic among the public ahead of the Ayodhya judgment.

‘It’s really shameful on the part of the state government which is making every effort to create a tense atmosphere in the state…Irrational deployment of security personnel in parts of the state ahead of the verdict is making the common man worried,’ he said.

Yadav said that ahead of the Ayodhya verdict, his party has asked its activists to make an all-round effort for maintaining peace and harmony.
