New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The Delhi government Wednesday released Rs.256 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), including Rs.73 crore for the projects related to the Commonwealth Games.

The amount also includes Rs.183 crore sanctioned under the non-plan head.

Delhi Finance Minister A.K. Walia claimed that the MCD has always been submitting proposals after the expiry of the time limit, causing delay in sanction of funds by the state government.

‘The civic body was able to submit the proposal only in the last week of June, while the deadline for submission was April,’ he added.

The MCD was given Rs.271 crore in June for roads, urban development and education, including the mid-day meal scheme, for the year 2010-11.

The civic body recently complained that it was not able to pay salaries to most of its employees in June due to paucity of funds. There are roughly 1.2 lakh MCD employees.
