New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday wrote to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, condoling the assassination of his cousin Hashmat Karzai.

In his letter, he reiterated that terrorism remained the biggest threat to Afghanistan, while also hoping that Hamid Karzai would continue his effort to contain it.
“Incidents such as this only deepen our conviction that terrorism remains the main threat to peace and security in Afghanistan,” he wrote.
Modi also said such incidents demonstrate that brave Afghans who oppose the menace of terrorism and its use as an instrument of state policy are being targeted systematically.
“I know that you (Hamid Karzai) will remain a steadfast bulwark in the face of these challenges and continue to work to deliver a better future to Afghanistan,” he said.
Modi assured that India would remain a constant partner in Afghanistan’s endeavour against terrorism.
Modi also sent his condolences to the family of Hashmat Karzai, who was killed at his house by a suicide bomber visiting him as a well wisher on the occasion of Eid July 29.
