Kolkata, April 2 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday stressed on the need for expansion of primary, higher and tertiary education facilities in the country so as to enhance employment opportunities for the younger generation.

Participating in the 100th year celebration of the advent of Divine Adya Mata oprgansied by the Dakshineswar Ramakrishna Sangha Adyapith here, Mukherjee refered to the golden era of education in the country between third century BC and 12th century AD when universities like Nalanda, and Ujjaini existed.
The president said such universities inspired students and scholars from foreign nations like China and Tibet to come to India for higher studies.
But after 12th century AD, the education system started losing its glory, he said.
“The quality of higher education in the country must improve,” he said.
The president also inaugurated Adyapeath Ananada B Ed. College and an orphanage for boys on the occasion.
