Jalandhar, Aug 4 (IANS) Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday said he was not aware of any threat from state-based terrorists to the October Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
‘We have received certain inputs on terrorists’ activities, from the intelligence agencies, but I am not aware of any kind of threat to the Commonwealth Games from Punjab-based terrorists,’ Badal, who is also the state home minister, told reporters in Jalandhar, 150 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
Punjab Police have arrested nearly 20 terrorists and recovered explosives and arms, from various parts of Punjab, during the last few months.
‘Our police force is working hard to maintain law and order situation and to ensure the safety of Punjab residents. We will not allow anybody to revive terrorism, at any cost, in the state,’ stated Badal.
About the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGPC) president Paramjit Singh Sarna’s alleged links with terrorists, Badal said: ‘We do not believe in fabricating evidence and framing political opponents in false cases. The police is investigating and the law will take its own course.’
A terrorist who was arrested recently is said to have disclosed that Sarna had invited them for the wedding reception of his son and promised tickets for the SGPC elections.
