New Delhi, April 26 (Inditop) Congress leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has claimed that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar could have become prime minister had he continued in the Congress party.
“National politics is always decided on strength If Sharad Pawar was in Congress – since Congress has the strength – and this is a numbers game… if he had been in the Congress and continued in the party, then he would have been considered (for the prime minister’s post) by the high command,” Deshmukh told NewsX news channel in an interview.
He was replying to a question on what he thought of some Third Front leaders pushing for the Maharashtra strongman as a suitable prime ministerial candidate.
Pawar left the Congress in 1999 and formed the NCP.
