Mumbai, Oct 22 (Inditop.com) The Congress Thursday attributed its win in the Maharashtra assembly polls to its “pro-poor policy” and for delivering the benefits of its developmental programmes to the poorest of the poor.
Beaming with pride and flashing victory signs, senior Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, the party’s state president Manikrao Thakre, union ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde appeared before the media to “thank the people” for voting the party back to the power a third time.
“I thank everybody who voted for the Congress-NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) alliance,” Thakre told reporters.
He said people have voted for the developmental policies of the Congress-NCP combine. “Our government reached out to the poorest of the poor, which is the policy of the Congress.”
Chief Minister Chavan also thanked Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi “for making sure” the benefits of development reach out to the poor.
The Congress-NCP combine is poised to win 148 seats in the 288 member Maharashtra assembly.
