Chennai, March 30 (IANS) People in Tamil Nadu will vote for the DMK-led alliance for the good governance provided by the current government, state Congress president K.V. Thangkabalu said Wednesday.

He was speaking to reporters here after meeting DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunandihi.

The people would vote for the continuance of good governance provided by the DMK-led coalition and Karunanidhi will be chief minister for the sixth time, the congress leader said.

Thangkabalu along with his wife Jayanthi met Karunanidhi at his residence and sought his blessings before starting campaign in the Mylapore constituency here.

He became the official Congress candidate in Mylapore after his wife’s nomination was rejected on the ground that she had not signed some papers.

Jayanthi was earlier announced as the party’s official candidate while Thangkabalu filed his nomination as a substitute, triggering strong protests among the party cadres.

The Congress is up against the AIADMK in Mylapore. The party also faces challenge from other rebel candidates.

‘We expect the Congress to win around 20 seats in the election. We are aware about their internal problems,’ a DMK leader told IANS.

The Congress is contesting 63 seats in the April 13 assembly elections.

In 2006, the Mylapore seat was won by S.Ve. Shekhar, who was then with the AIADMK. He later joined the Congress.
