New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said Wednesday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had ‘thrown up his hands’ on corruption and price rise and had tried to justify the 2G spectrum pricing by comparing it to subsidies in the food and fertiliser sectors.

‘The prime minister virtually tried to justify (the 2G spectrum allocation) by comparing it with subsidies given in food and ferlitiser sectors,’ CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said, responding to the prime minister’s remarks during an interaction with the media.

‘It is an admission that the government was subsidising the corporate sector by giving away national assets at throwaway prices. Subsidising the rich is naked loot of the country,’ he said.

Yechury said subsidising the rich was not acceptable to his party.

The prime minister ‘had thrown up his hands’ on the vital issues of corruption and price rise, he said.
