Ranchi, Jan 9 (Inditop.com) A senior police officer in Jharkhand has been transferred for allegedly shielding the guilty following a death in police custody.

Palamau Superintendent of Police (SP) Jatin Narwal was transferred and made SP of Special Task Force (STF) in Ranchi Friday night, state government officials said here. He was replaced by Ramgarh SP Anup T. Matthew.

On Dec 30, police arrested Rajendra Yadav from Telari village of Palamau district. He died under mysterious circumstances the following day.

On Jan 1, Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren ordered a probe into the incident. The first post-mortem examination, conducted in the government-run Palamau Sadar Hospital, gave the police a clean chit.

However, the second post-mortem examination report said that bruises were found on Yadav’s body. The autopsy was done on Jan 4 at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here. On the basis of second report, a complaint was lodged against unnamed policemen on Jan 5, the officials said.

The probe team constituted by the state government has reportedly questioned the role of Narwal in the case and has alleged that he tried to shield the policemen involved.
