Lucknow, July 11 (IANS) If a controversial poster put up at the district Congress committee office in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district is to be believed, posts in the party are up for ‘sale’. Local leaders dubbed it an opposition conspiracy.
The poster, which appeared and was hurriedly removed earlier in the week, explicitly displayed the rate list for holding different party positions.
The list was as follows: ‘All India Congress Committee membership – Rs.1 lakh, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee membership – Rs.50,000, district Congress committee – Rs.5,000 and block president – Rs.20,000.’
The poster was purported to have been issued by the president of district Congress committee, Bahraich, about 120 km from here.
As the news about the controversial poster spread, Congress leaders got them removed but not before their pictures were published in a Hindi daily.
Bahraich district Congress president Jitendra Singh ‘Jeetu’ Sunday denied the existence of any kind of ‘rate list’ for acquiring a post in party.
But when confronted with pictures of the poster, he promptly blamed the opposition for ‘hatching a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the Congress party’.
