Shimla, Jan 30 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Saturday providing potable water to every household is a top priority of his government.
A total of 6,949 new habitations have been covered under rural water supply schemes in the three years, he said.
Addressing a public rally at Bhawarna village in Kangra district, he said Rs.773 crore has been spent on water supply schemes and 4,887 hand pumps have been installed during this period.
Besides, 10,586 hectares have been under irrigation facility with an outlay of Rs.400 crore.
Virbhadra Singh announced sub-tehsil status for Bhawarna in the Sulah constituency of Kangra.
He said 13,652 houses have been constructed under the Indira Awas Yojana and 2,141 under the Rajiv Awas Yojana.
