Chandigarh, Jan 26 (IANS) The Republic Day was celebrated in Punjab and Haryana with patriotic fervour.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal unfurled the flag at Bathinda since his father and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is unwell.
Badal, 88, the oldest chief minister in the country, was admitted to the PGIMER on January 22 after he felt uneasy due to chest congestion and fever.
Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki unfurled the national flag at a function held here, while Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar unfurled the tricolour in Gurgaon.
Police and security forces took part in the Republic Day parades at district headquarters in both the states.
School students presented colourful programmes.
The Republic Day celebrations took place under tight security.
