Chennai, Sep 1 (Inditop.com) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi would be in Tamil Nadu next week on a two-day visit to rev up party cadres, its leaders said here Tuesday.
“The actual dates of Rahul Gandhi’s visit and his programme are being finalised,” Tamil Nadu Congress chief K.V. Thankabalu said, speaking to Inditop by telephone from New Delhi.
With the elections for the State Youth Congress slated to be held soon and the party mobilising youth members, Gandhi is expected to hold discussions with state leaders on how to strengthen the Congress in Tamil Nadu.
As per the initial programme submitted by the state leadership, Gandhi would inaugurate the renovated Martyr’s Hall at Satyamurthi Bhavan, the party’s state headquarters, then make tours to villages and meet party workers.
Meanwhile, the last month’s meeting of Tamil movie hero Vijay with Gandhi has created excitement among the Congress activists here and speculations are rife in political circles here that the actor might join the party. However, Vijay has been keeping quiet about it.
The Congress is known to be wooing another actor turned politician Vijaykanth, who floated DMDK and has good youth following.
Unlike the two other major parties in the state, the DMK and the AIADMK, the Congress has no notable film actor to attract the masses.
Vijay’s association with the Congress is expected to get the party the much needed young blood.
