Chandigarh, May 10 (IANS) Weather department officials on Sunday predicted rainfall in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in the next two days even as the region sizzled in 40-plus temperatures at most places.

Hisar in Haryana was the hottest at 42.5 degrees, two degrees above average. Narnaul recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Sikh holy city Amritsar was the hottest at 42.3 degrees followed by Ludhiana at 41 and Patiala at 40.7 degrees. The temperature in Amritsar was four degrees above average.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 40.1, two degrees above average.
Weather officials said that temperatures will rise further in the range of 43-47 degrees from next week onwards as the region will come in the grip of a heat wave.
