New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Selfie with Daughter’ initiative a Delhi-based students’ group has started a campaign to promote a plantation drive among the youth.
On Friday, volunteers of Students for Development (SFD) planted 50 saplings near Shakti Nagar in Delhi, launching a campaign named ‘Selfie with Plant’.
“Pollution can only be controlled if every person plants a sapling,” SFD volunteer Ayush Mall told IANS adding: “We will continue the drive in other parts of the city too.”
While planting a sapling, another SFD volunteer, Aditya, told IANS. “I request Indians to plant at least one sapling on their birthday and upload ‘Selfie with Plant’ on social media.”
According to the latest India State of Forest Report 2013 (published biennially) there has been a 5,871 sq km increase in forest cover as compared to the assessment done in 2011.
