New Delhi, Dec 17 (Inditop.com) A separate Telangana state was a commitment given by the Congress and the leadership has already initiated the process, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told a delegation of the party’s MPs and legislators arguing for a united Andhra Pradesh.

The MPs and legislators opposing a Telangana state met Mukherjee and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal at Parliament House.

“Pranab told us that the high command has already started the process for the formation of a separate Telangana state,” MP Kanumuri Bapiraju told IANS after the meeting.

Mukherjee also reminded the delegation members that “it was a commitment of our party to initiate the process (for separate Telangana) since it was mentioned in the election manifesto of the party”, Bapiraju said.

However, the minister added that a final decision would be taken only after the “appropriate resolution is adopted in the state assembly”.

“He told us not to get emotional and wait for consensus,” added Bapiraju, who represents the Narsapuram parliament constituency.
