Bhopal, July 9 (IANS) Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to hand over the probe in the Vyapam scam to the CBI, the Congress on Thursday again demanded resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
State Congress chief Arun Yadav told reporters: “We welcome the Supreme Court order. But the Vyapam case reached the CBI very late. The apex court has ordered a CBI probe into the scam and the related deaths. The agencies probing the scam should also be covered.”
He said: “The chief minister says that he respects the public opinion. Therefore, respecting the public opinion he should resign.”
He said that the shut-down called by the Congress on July 16 will be held as scheduled.
Vyapam (Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal) or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board conducts recruitment and entrance exams not conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission. The scam came to light in 2013. So far, nearly 2,100 arrests have been made in connection with the scam.
According to officials, there have been 33 deaths of those involved in the Vyapam scam. Unofficial sources, however, put the number of deaths at over 40.
