New Delhi, July 9 (Inditop.com) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj Thursday said she was “disappointed” with Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s assurance on the security for her party MP Varun Gandhi.

“I can tell you that I am not at all satisfied with whatever he said,” Swaraj told reporters here after a meeting with Chidambaram.

Refusing to comment about the details of the meeting, Swaraj said: “I will not tell you the details of what transpired in the meeting. I am not going to disclose it.”

Swaraj, the deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Tuesday raised in parliament the issue of a threat to the young MP’s life.

Refuting the BJP’s allegation that the Congress-led government has adopted “lackadaisical” attitude to Varun Gandhi’s security, Chidambaram had said that the MP has been provided adequate protection taking into account the inputs of the intelligence agencies.

Chidambaram Wednesday wrote a letter to Swaraj asking for a meeting with her.

“While I would be happy to respond in the house and disclose the level of security provided to Varun Gandhi, but that would defeat the very purpose of providing security to Varun Gandhi. I, therefore, suggest that, if you wish, you may kindly meet me and I shall take you into confidence about the security cover provided to Varun Gandhi,” CHidambaram said.

“I may add that the government has acted on the letter dated March 20 by Varun Gandhi and has also taken into account the inputs provided by the intelligence agencies. As in the case of every other protected person, the level of security provided to Varun Gandhi is periodically reviewed,” the home minister wrote.

Varun, who represents the Pilibhit constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, last week alleged that underworld mobster Chhota Shakeel is plotting to kill him while his mother and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the home ministry was treating the threats to his life casually.
