Hyderabad, Dec 7 (Inditop.com) The movement of trains in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh was hit Monday as hundreds of protesters demanding separate statehood to the region stopped several trains by squatting on the tracks.
On the second day of Telangana shutdown called by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), party activists and sympathisers of separate Telangana blocked movement of trains in Karimnagar and Warangal districts.
The New Delhi-bound AP Express and Rajdhani Express were among a dozen trains stopped by the protesters in the two districts.
The Rajdhani Express was stopped at Uppal railway station in Karimnagar district as hundreds of protesters squatted on the track. The train which left Secunderabad railway station here Monday morning could not move ahead for five hours.
At Kazipet junction in Warangal district, protesters stopped the AP Express. The Railway Protection Force and local police were outnumbered by the protesters.
A large number of railway passengers decided to call off their journey and were returning to Hyderabad by road. A railway official said they were reimbursing the fares to such passengers.
