Kolkata, July 23 (IANS) In trouble for allegedly taking photos of West Bengal assembly proceedings on his mobile phone, the state’s top cop, Bhupinder Singh, was Friday fined Rs.1,000 by speaker Hashim Abdul Halim.
Singh was summoned to the house and produced in a makeshift dock, a day after the speaker seized his mobile phone following allegations from Congress legislators.
Asked if he had clicked a photo in the house with his mobile camera, Singh replied in the negative, saying the flash on his mobile phone came had gone off accidentally.
The officer, in civil attire, was then told by the speaker to restrict his answer to a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
‘I called you to my chamber yesterday. Then you said you had received an SMS from Darjeeling and while trying to see it, you had mistakenly clicked a photo,’ Halim said. ‘Today you are denying having taken a photo. But you claim the flash on your mobile went off. Why the contradiction?’
Singh said he was not sure whether a photo was clicked and he needed to examine his mobile. ‘I regret it and apologise unconditionally,’ he said.
The speaker fined him Rs.1,000.
