Thiruvananthapuram, April 17 (Inditop) Kerala saw a heavy voter turnout – 73.33 percent – for the state’s 20 Lok Sabha seats Thursday, according to final figures released Friday.

According to statistics released by the chief electoral officer, the polling this time is higher than the 71.45 percent recorded in 2004.

Kannur, a Communist bastion, recorded the highest polling (80.91 percent), followed by Vadakara (80.44 percent). The lowest turnout was in Thiruvananthapuram (65.73 percent).

The main contest in the state was between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
