Kolkata, April 6 (Inditop.com) Two new ministers, one from the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the other from its ally the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), were sworn in as ministers of state (MOS) in West Bengal Tuesday.
CPI-M legislator from Purshura of Hooghly district Soumendranath Bera and Dasarat Tirkey – RSP MLA from Kumargram in Jalpaiguri district – were sworn in by West Bengal governor M.K Narayanan at Raj Bhavan.
Bera will be minister of state (MOS) in the information and culture department. He will be working under Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee who holds the information and culture portfolio.
Tirkey would be junior minister in the Public Works Department (PWD).
“The department of information and culture is quite important to me and I have to understand its responsibilities first,” Bera told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan.
While Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, other state cabinet members and senior state government officials were present at the occasion, Trinamool Congress and Congress representatives – the opposition alliance in the state – stayed away from the event.
