Patna, Nov 30 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Tuesday re-nominated ruling Janata Dal (United) legislator Udai Narain Chaudhary for the post of the state assembly speaker.
He said Thursday’s election to choose the next speaker would be a mere formality as the ruling JD(U)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)combine has 206 legislators in the 243-member house.
Choudhary represents the Maoist-hit Imamganj constituency in Gaya district and became the first Dalit speaker of the house in 2005.
The maiden session of the Bihar assembly began here Tuesday, nearly a week after the polls gave a thumping four-fifths victory to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of Nitish Kumar.
