New Delhi, Jan 11 (Inditop.com) Unesco will soon set up the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development in the national capital, the organisation’s director general said Monday.

“Our general conference, the highest governing body that includes member states, approved the creation of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Peace and Sustainability, which I am confident will contribute to shaping more inclusive knowledge societies,” Irena G. Bokova told Inditop on the sidelines of a function here.

Bokova said the institute’s campus would be in Delhi and final modalities are still being worked out.

“I am going to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on this matter. We are counting on this institute being set up soon,” she added.

“I am also creating a high-level panel on peace and dialogue among cultures composed of eminent persons from all fields,” Bokova said.
