Shimla, Sep 22 (Inditop.com) Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into police in Himachal Pradesh giving a clean chit to all the accused in an alleged high-profile call girl racket.

“The state government has hushed up the matter as senior functionaries of the ruling (Bharatiya Janata Party) party and officials of the government were involved. We are demanding a CBI inquiry into it,” Virbhadra Singh, who has been chief minister five times, told Inditop.

On Sep 19, state police had cleared senior BJP leader Rajinder Rana, senior government official Suresh Attari and Anil Sharma, who is an executive at a private company in the racket saying nothing objectionable was found nor had they committed any offence.

Furthermore, the antecedents of the two alleged call girls was also checked. The police found no criminal records.

Rana resigned as head of the party’s media advisory committee after the Congress raked up his alleged involvement in the call girl racket.

The opposition Congress, however, feels the state government has swept the incident under the carpet because of the involvement of senior leaders.

According to Virbhadra Singh, state police were playing into the hands of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.

“How do you expect that it would do justice with the case? Our demand (of the CBI probe) is appropriate,” Virbhadra Singh, who himself is facing corruption charges, said.

The cases against Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha were registered Aug 3 for allegedly misusing his official position and for criminal misconduct when he was chief minister in 1989.
