Ahmedabad, April 30 (Inditop) Polling began Thursday morning in Gujarat’s 26 Lok Sabha constituencies, including Gandhinagar from where the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani is seeking re-election.

About 36.4 million people are eligible to vote in what is seen as largely a direct contest between the state’s ruling BJP and the Congress.

There are 359 candidates in the fray including central ministers Shankarsinh Vaghela, Dinsha Patel and Naranbhai Rathwa.

In the high-profile constituency of Gandhinagar, Advani is pitted against Mallika Sarabhai, renowned dancer and social activist who is contesting as an independent, and Suresh Patel of the Congress.
