New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) With the conclusion of Commonwealth Games Oct 14, the focus of Delhi Police has now shifted to ensuring an equally peaceful Durga Puja and Ramlila festivities.
Over one lakh security personnel, drawn from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces like the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were deployed in the capital for the 12-day sporting extravaganza which began Oct 3.
Around forty percent of the over 80,000 strong police force was on Games duty over the past few weeks, putting pressure on the rest of the force to deal with local cases.
‘Even during the Games, regular policing was not neglected. Of course, our men were burdened during the Games, but they can focus on their areas now,’ said Jaspal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi.
With Durga Puja and Ramlila festivities on, police personnel have their task cut out.
‘We are committed to providing the same level of security as witnessed during the Games,’ a senior police official said.
Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson, said that with the lifting of restrictions on puja pandals and Ramlila functions, security continues to be a top priority.
Pending files too have to be completed before the courts open Oct 18. Investigations into various cases, delayed due to Games duties, have now been resumed, police say.
