Bangalore, Sep 27 (Inditop.com) Mysore, the city of palaces and Brindavan Garden, is decked up for the Jamboo Savari or procession of caparisoned elephants, the grand finale of the Dusshera on Monday.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to witness the procession of the 12 elephants with the lead elephant Balarama carrying the idol of goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of the city, 130 km from here.
The idol will be placed in the 750-kg golden howdah (carriage) mounted on Balarama.
Balarama, 52 years old, stands 2.7 metre tall and weighs around 5,000 kg. He is a majestic tusker.
The 10th and last day of Dusshera is celebrated as Vijayadashami (Vijaya-victory, dashami-10th day). Legend has it that on this day demon Mahishasura was slain by Chamundeshwari.
The procession will be flagged off around 1 p.m. from the historic Amba Vilas palace by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. The procession will pass through main roads of the city and end at Bannimantap, around five km from the palace.
The 10-day celebrations will round off with a torch light parade Monday evening.
Tight security will be in place for the Jamboo Savari, Mysore city police commissioner Sunil Agarwal told reporters Saturday.
Around 6,000 police personnel will be deployed along the procession route.
The Central Industrial Security Force personnel will be on duty at the Amba Vilas palace during the procession flag off ceremony.
