Chennai, Aug 2 (IANS) Arun Agarwal, the younger member of the famous cue-sport family from Mumbai, along with fellow-veteran Shakeel Ahmed (Kolkata) advanced to the third round of the qualifying tournament in the senior national snooker championship, here Tuesday.

Agarwal, brother of former National billiards champion Subhash and India’s first World snooker champion Om, defeated Ashfaq Miyan (TN) 33-44, 57-9, 67-13, 69-30, while Ahmed also needed four frames to get past Vikrant Bagwe (Maharashtra) 57-32, 66-36, 40-66, 72-11.

Meanwhile, another veteran, SA Saleem of Tamil Nadu, who also boasts of an illustrious cue-sport pedigree being the son of former India No.2 Aleem, accounted for Vishal Malhotra (Mah) 57-07, 68-57, 70-08.

The qualifying rounds conclude Wednesday and the main draw is scheduled to start Thursday with the final slated for Aug 9.
