Chennai, Aug 22 (IANS) Petronas Yahama Malaysia rider Md Zamri Baba came up with a stunning ride to win the SuperSport 600 CC fourth round of the Asia Road Racing Championship that was marred by heavy rains Sunday.
Baba overcame team-mates and front-row riders Decha Kraisat and Chalermpol Polami while the second race of the Indian leg was cancelled due to the bad weather conditions.
Making good use of the chance when Kraisat and Polamai missed perfect starts, Baba stormed to the front after starting in fourth position. He extended his lead steadily and was ahead by a comfortable 13 seconds with five laps to go. Kraisat then found his rhythm as the track got drier and was trying to close the gap, but had too much to make up as Baba crossed the finish line four seconds in front.
Championship leader Kraisart said: ‘The conditions were really tough in the beginning, but I am happy with the overall result. I had a couple of big moments in the first few laps but managed to find it easy in the last few laps and began to push. I was really looking forward to the second race but unfortunately the weather became worse.’
M. Gautam of Motor-Rev India team finished seventh after starting at the back end of the grid.
The Underbone 115cc race was a more closely contested affair with Fitriansyah Kete winning ahead of Hadi Wijaya and championship leader Denny Triyugoa.
