Kolkata, July 2 (IANS) Without taking names, Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen on Thursday slammed city football giants East Bengal and his own club for “doing nothing” for the improvement of the sport at the grassroots level.
“You talk about the big local clubs, what have they done for the youth, what have they done in grassroots?” asked a seemingly angry Sen.
“Where will the local players come from? All they have done is farce in the name of youth academies and development. If they would have done it seriously, we would have had results by now,” said Sen, who led Bagan to the I-League title this year.
Interacting with media persons at the Calcutta Sports Journalist Club here, he urged journalists to highlight the ills plaguing Indian football.
“Football has not been allowed to prosper due to some men who take all wrong decisions. It is time we stood up against them. You people have a major role to play,” Sen told the media.
