New Delhi, Jan 26 (Inditop.com) The London-based Commonwealth Games Federation has courted controversy by putting a distorted map of India on its website that shows areas of Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan.
The map on its countries page shows northern areas of Jammu and Kashmir – Chilas, Gilgit and Skardu – as part of Pakistan. The Gilgit-Baltistan region is part of a disputed territory between India and Pakistan.
Similarly, it shows some parts of western Gujarat’s Kutch region as belonging to Pakistan.
Organisers of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi in October said the matter has been raised with the Commonwealth Games Federation officials in London.
Commonwealth Games organising committee secretary Lalit Bhanot told IANS: “They have promised to get back to us after we brought the issue to their notice.”
Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Mike Hooper, who is based in New Delhi to oversee the preparations of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, was not available for his comments.
