Chittagong, Jan 18 (Inditop.com) After taking their first-innings score to 243, India struck back to reduce Bangladesh to 59 for three as fog and bad light drastically curtailed play for the second day running in the first cricket Test here Monday.
On a day when only 24.5 overs were possible, Sachin Tendulkar completed his 44th Test century before Indian innings folded up just before lunch.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan (5-62) and Shahadat Hossain (5-71), who rocked the Indian batting Sunday, got one wicket each to complete their five-wicket hauls.
Tendulkar, who reached the milestone of 13,000 Test runs Sunday, remained unbeaten with 105 off 166 balls, stroking 11 fours and two sixes.
Tamim Iqbal (31) and Imrul Kayes (23) gave Bangladesh a sound start with a 53-run stand. Bangladesh were 21 for no loss at lunch but lost three wickets in the second session. Zaheer Khan (2-32) and Ishant Sharma (1-14) got wickets in three overs to undo the openers’ good job.
Zaheer trapped Kayes leg before in the 15th over. Ishant got rid of Shahriar Nafees in the next over before Zaheer returned to knock the stumps of Tamim. Four balls later poor light forced players to leave the field. The umpires inspected the light twice but found it insufficient for play to resume.
Raqibul Hasan (1) and Mohammad Ashraful (0) were at the crease.
Earlier, play started late by 90 minutes.
Resuming at 213 for eight, India added another 30 runs to their total before being dismissed, Tendulkar getting 29 of these.
Pacer Sahadat Hossain picked up his fifth wicket when Ishant Sharma edged a delivery to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim. Sharma played 24 balls.
Tendulkar, who was 76 overnight, made sure India had something to bowl at after the batting collapse Sunday.
He reached his 44th Test century with two consecutive boundaries off Hossain.
Sreesanth was not comfortable at the other end with Shakib getting considerable turn off the wicket. He managed to see off one over but fell in the next, caught by Kayes, to hand Shakib his sixth five-wicket haul.
