Karachi, Sep 5 (Inditop.com) Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt has said he has no issues
with Younis Khan planning to form a national players’ association.
Butt said he would provide a helping hand in setting up such a body.
Butt said in an interview with Express Saturday that he is ready to back Younis Khan’s campaign for the formation of Pakistan’s cricketers association because the move is aimed at forming a platform for the benefit of local players.
He said that the PCB will give its permission for the setting up of a players’ association as soon as it receives an official request from the cricketers.
Younis met Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) chief Tim May in London during the World Twenty20 championship in June to seek details about the formation of a players’ association.
He made it clear that the association is not being formed as a rival to the PCB.
“I want to work for the betterment of cricketers in Pakistan because there are several players who are in a lot of financial problems,” he said.
Butt, also a former Pakistan Test cricketer, said that he himself tries his best to help out needy players and would like to see a proper body to take care of the issue.
Butt said that most of the Test-playing countries already have players’ associations, and Pakistan should also have such a body.
Former Pakistan Test captain Majid Khan formed a players association during the 1980s but it failed to take off.
