London, July 20 (Inditop.com) England’s proposed plans for an alternative to the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be abandoned this week.
A meeting of county chief executives and chairman Wednesday will discuss two draft schedules for next season, neither of which includes the proposed P20 competition, The Times reported Monday.
The domestic schedule was due to include two 20-overs tournaments, including the P20, which was to be played in June and designed to attract the world’s leading players. But forecasts that the two-division P20 would bring in millions of pounds have been drastically downgraded.
The ECB’s much-trumpeted alternative to the IPL looks likely to be abandoned this week.
A title sponsor has not been found and an overseas broadcasting deal has been scuppered by legal advice, questioning whether the contracting of India players to first division teams would comply with employment law. A projected income of ?150,000 to ?250,000 per team would have left counties struggling to afford player salaries.
