London, Dec 8 (DPA) Cesc Fabregas believes Arsenal need to sign a target-man style centre-forward, according to The Guardian daily Tuesday.
The Spanish midfielder is frustrated by his side’s recent underperformance, which saw them lose 3-0 at home to Chelsea in the Premier League and by the same scoreline in the Carling Cup to Manchester City before Saturday’s 2-0 win over Stoke City.
“Throughout the game (against City) we had a lot of possession but didn’t really have anyone to go in behind the defenders, apart from Carlos Vela,” Fabregas said.
“We had a lot of similar players who like the ball into their feet. Sometimes it’s true that you need a different kind of option.”
Arsenal’s hopes of lifting a trophy this season have been severely hampered by the loss of centre-forwards Nicklas Bendtner and Robin van Persie to injury.
But Fabregas thinks that a different, more physical option – like Chelsea’s Didier Drogba – may be advantageous even were the whole squad available.
“Overall, I saw a Chelsea team that was normal but a team that has probably the best striker in the world,” he said of his side’s defeat at the Emirates.
“An average team that has the best striker in the world can always do something and Didier Drogba makes all the difference.”
