Chennai, June 18 (IANS) The Madras Motor Race Trust track at Sriperumbudur near here will be inspected over the weekend as part of FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) certification process.
FIA track inspector Beppe Musciony is scheduled to arrive here Saturday morning and later proceed to the track for inspection that will take place on conclusion of the day’s proceedings in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship.
The track was last certified by the FIA in 1998 when Formula 3 races were held. But that certification is presently invalid in view of sea changes in the FIA regulations governing recognition of motor racing circuits.
Last year, the track received FIM certification to conduct international two-wheeler racing ahead of the Petronas Asia championship.
Certification for international four-wheeler racing has different parameters, especially concerning the safety by way of run-off areas and other aspects like track width, configuration, drainage, Paddock and Pit lane that have to conform to FIA specifications.
Racing circuits are graded from 1 to 6 in descending order with a Formula One circuit qualifying for Grade 1 certification.
